Product & Strategy Director

My client are looking for a highly intelligent, highly articulate, creative leader to take ownership of large innovation and business transformation projects, working directly with clients at Board level, and leading teams of strategists, designers, technologists, scientists, artists and philosophers.

Recent clients include top automotive and financial services brands.

About you

You are a consultant-grade, recognised industry leader with 10 years’ experience working for top-tier consultancies or brands; a leader of people, projects, thoughts and ideas. You are T-shaped (or π-shaped), with deep expertise in management consulting, strategy, product development, innovation, design or technology, and strong commercial acumen. You get a buzz from – and will have a track record of – delivering impact and innovation to markets and organisations. This could include inventing and shipping new business units, creating new propositions or services, or solving and delivering the solution to a tier one strategic problem.

  • Some of the words people use to describe you are: intelligent, articulate, entrepreneurial, collaborative, determined, curious, bold, empathic and honest.
  • You are creative and generative thinker, capable of inspiring talented hybrid teams and clients who are solving complex problems and shaping the future.

  • You are passionate about clients and their business challenges.
  • You conceptualize and think strategically; and you communicate coherently.
  • You are numerate, imaginative, and credible when it comes to presenting ideas and solutions.
  • You have experience working with business leaders at the highest level and are seen as a trusted advisor and someone who gets things done.
  • You are an expert in contemporary product development processes, e.g., lean or agile.
  • You are familiar with (or perhaps even an expert in) design-led methodologies and problem-solving techniques.
  • You are considered to be an industry thought leader – with an industry reputation, invited to speak at events and conferences etc.
  • An MBA and/or experience of business operations (e.g., call centres) will be an advantage.

About the work

In the role of Principal Innovation Consultant, you will take overall ownership of programmes of business evolution for our top clients. You will work directly with our clients’ senior leadership team – often at Board level. You will lead and manage hybrid teams of service designers, proposition designers,

engineers, developers, analysts, anthropologists, researchers and other consultants. You will be see engagements through to delivery, e.g., the launch of a new product or service, or the implementation of organisational change. You will have overall responsibility for the strategic growth of a client relationship, and for the quality of the work and the team’s performance. You will resolve (and own) client issues related to the engagements you own, asking for support from the leadership team whenever you need it. You will identify opportunities for business innovation / transformation / evolution, and impress clients regularly with your strategic thinking. You will help set new standards for excellence in our team, and in the work we do for our clients, which may include developing new ways of working. You will ensure that high-quality thinking is part of everything we do. You will mentor less experienced team members.
