Lead Data Scientist – London – Digital Transformation

Greater London Permanent £55000 - £65000 per annum + pension

Lead Data Scientist required for a client currently undergoing a major digital transformation programme and data science has been recognised as having a critical role to play.

The ideal candidate will have delivered real value elsewhere using analytics in areas such as risk scoring, recommend solutions or behavioural segmentation. They will also have the curiosity to see business opportunities, the hands-on tenacity to exploit technologies such as R or Python and finally the expertise in techniques such as machine learning and data visualisation to help embed analytics into the everyday decisions.

The Lead Data Scientist will lead work streams, manage stakeholder relationships and develop innovative ideas within the departments Data Science capability.

Key Skills:

Essential

  • Academic background in Maths, Statistics, Computer Science or similar
  • Five year’s experience delivering innovative, data driven insights on large or complex data sets including gathering, manipulating and performing advanced analytics
  • The candidate must be able to create professional data visualizations and breakdown complex data sets into understandable visual narratives.
  • Have had influence and autonomy over solutions that identify and address complex business problems using data
  • Hands-on aptitude for picking up new technologies relevant to the data manipulation, data analytics and data visualisation domain. Must have R, Spark and/or Python to an expert level
  • Delivery track record showing ability to work at pace
  • Problem solving approach with the curiosity and pro-activity to engage and understand senior stakeholder’s strategic goals and needs
  • Confident written and verbal communicator skills with the ability to present complex ideas in a compelling way to senior technical and non-technical audiences

Desirable

  • Awareness of Agile methodology and ability to manage diverse projects
  • Experience of using analytics for risk scoring, recommender solutions or other machine learning applications
  • Experience of creating automated reporting solutions or bespoke data visualisations
  • Experience in delivering apps, APIs or web sites at scale
  • Working with ‘big data’ challenges such as high volume, variety or velocity data
  • Good understanding of data handling, security and privacy best practices
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with suppliers and stakeholders across all grades and working with internal/external stakeholders to deliver results.
  • Experience of maintaining technical solution development/ test and production environments.
  • Experience of defining and/ or maintaining best practices or reusable capabilities
