DevOps software engineer- My client is looking for a DevOps software engineer for a huge digital transformation working on a platform overhaul for a global e-commerce brand. This is effectively re-writing a global website and over time scaling the new platform out to all sites globally. User traffic is in the 10s of millions. They are looking for candidates who have worked on large scale web deployments who all have in excess of 20-30m unique hits. Their new digital platform is gaining huge traction, since being set up a 6 months ago they now have a new platform live built using highly distributed and scalable micro-service architecture with Node.JS, React, Docker Containers AWS Stack (ECS, SQS), Terraform, Circle CI and infra-as-code environment allowing us to deploy up to 70x times per day. This is not building a UK E-commerce site, this is high velocity, Super-fast, automated deployment using high level architecture, high performance, high traffic transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a highly collaborative, cross-functional development team following continuous delivery and building highly performant code
  • Develop prototypes quickly but deliver production code that can scale.
  • Be involved in a full spectrum of development, including new features and new applications but also tools to support experimentation, localisation and customisation.
  • Develop and implement systems using best practices and tools. Document and communicate them.
  • Be creative and experiment with new solutions but pragmatic and committed to code optimization, maintainability, and quality
  • Work with product owners and designers to prioritise and hone features. Optimize web applications for maximum speed and scale.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Creation of reusable methods for build, testing, deployment, orchestration, logging, backup, monitoring in cloud environments such as AWS across multiple projects
  • End-to-end participation from initial design iterations, technical feasibility, architecture right through to testing frameworks, deployment tools and production
  • Production troubleshooting, load and performance testing, monitoring

ESSENTIAL

  • Experience from both the “dev” and “ops” sides are essential: experience as a software engineer in a team working with Node.JS
  • Experience in environments with REST APIs and microservices, both SQL and NoSQL platforms; understanding of security and personal data issues
  • Devops automation and containerisation tools such as Chef, Ansible, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Mesos, CoreOS
  • Very experienced with AWS services in large-scale environments
  • Hands on experience of working in an agile environment, working with test-driven or behaviour-driven development and continuous deployment
