Software Engineer Lead

My client a leading tier 1 bank are currently looking for a senior software engineer lead.This is an excellent opportunity for a driven candidate to take on a leadership role where you would be committed to building and maintaining highly productive software engineering teams instilled with the ethos of delivering quality solutions. The ultimate measure of success is working software in production, achieved by ensuring that people are continually challenged, motivated, mentored and supported where necessary. You would be driving the overarching Engineering strategy and setting the direction for all software engineers within your area, which can range from a handful of feature teams to a £50m change portfolio.

Key Accountabilities:
As part of the leadership team, setting the strategic direction for how we build software within the teams, which includes tools, coding standards, quality controls etc. Ensure that software is built in a way which is consistent with – and exploits where possible – the collective frameworks, patterns and best practices that exist across the wider Engineering community. Mentor and develop software engineers, providing clear and constructive feedback and creating opportunities for learning and growth, Foster knowledge sharing to provide solutions for complex business problems where no precedent may exist, and ensure implementation of solutions where appropriate. Establish, maintain and leverage effective working relationships with all areas, not only within Digital, but across the Group to promote Engineering and improve the overall delivery method. Relentless focus on delivering business value through sound software engineering methods and principles

The kind of Developers we’re looking for will need to show:

Strong Software Engineering background and deep knowledge of agile development practices, TDD/BDD, automated builds, continuous integration, code quality metrics etc.
History in providing Software Engineering oversight, technical leadership and setting the strategic direction across multiple teams.
Understanding of the entire application stack, deep and broad knowledge of Java, and significant exposure to modern web technologies (HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript)
Experience across the entire software development life-cycle from inception, through build to production
Passion for coaching other software engineers and building a strong team culture
Confidence to express own opinions, and be pragmatic about modifying them when appropriate
Excitement about enabling others to achieve greater results than one can.
