My client is currently looking for a SDN Architect to join our Network and Security Consulting Centre of Excellence.

My client is a leading Consulting, Systems Integration and Digital Services company, specialising in the creation and implementation of solutions based on new communication networks and digital media.

The role

As a Technical Consultant specialising in the Software Define Networking and/or Network Function Virtualisation space, you will be liaising directly with our clients and advising them on choosing and implementing appropriate solutions for future networks, empowering them to innovate and position themselves at the vanguard of the telecommunications industry.

As a specialist consultant you will be using your knowledge of SDN and NFV technologies as part of a project team within design and implementation phases to understand and validate customer requirements, provide high and low level designs as well as peer reviewing designs from colleagues.

You will play a key role in our consulting engagement team ensuring the delivery of projects within distinct programmes of work or across multiple work-streams. You can expect to be put outside of your comfort zone now and again, you can also expect to use a broad range of skills including; delivery management, project management and technical knowledge.

Detailed activities

Day to day responsibilities will include:

* Engaging with various stakeholders for technical information gathering and analysis

* Providing technical leadership in the engineering, design, implementation of software define network projects

* Supporting the Operational and Design Architects in order to provide a customer design that meets customer requirements

* Documenting the solutions designs, including High Level and Low Level documentation

* Working in trending Network, Virtualisation, Cloud, Server and Data Centre technologies

* Defining test specifications and performing Proof of Concept exercises in the areas of your expertise

* Collaborating and supporting the other practice’s team members providing technical advice

Required Skills & Experience

* Proven experience in consultancy within the TMT market either within a technology vendor, systems integrator or management consultancy

* Solid experience in vendor assessments (RFI/P/Q) against solution requirements

* Broad experience in Transport Networking and Telecommunications

* Solid experience in Software Define Networking architecture

* Strong knowledge and experience with Network Virtualization (ETSI NFV Framework)

* Exposure to and Data Centre and Cloud technologies

* IP networking experience including protocols such as BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS, MPLS VPNs, VLANs, etc.

* TCP/IP and key protocols such as ARP, HTTP, DNS

* Open Source Software knowledge (install from package, build and install from source)

Desired Skills

* Demonstrable experience in developing SDN-centric architectures and applications

* Virtual networking / emulation (mininet, Open vSwitch OVS)

* Hypervisor experience (KVM, VMware, VirtualBox)

* OpenStack cloud computing

* RESTful API programming

* Open source configuration management / orchestration tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef)


* BSc/BEng/MSc in Networks, Telecommunications or Equivalent Industry

* Cisco CCNP or higher qualification
