Systems Engineer

Infrastructure

City of London Permanent £35000 per annum + Flexi hours, Travel Loan,

Systems Engineer required to join a young dynamic team and take the next step on their next career path. You will be part of a growing streaming media company based in their London office branch with a fresh, forward thinking working environment, and offices also located in the north of England and abroad. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Engineering and will have a “can do” attitude alongside their technical ability. They will have enthusiasm to work within a team and can communicate to stakeholders at all levels. This role will require providing support for all aspects the company’s systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support and operation of products and platforms (Windows and Linux based)
  • Manage support tickets as part of an on-call support Rota
  • Deal with client, supplier and end user queries
  • Configure and troubleshoot PC hardware and install operating systems in the office and datacenter
  • Occasional trips to datacenter and Manchester will be required
  • Design and follow documentation and/procedures as required

Skills and experience

  • Windows Server (03 upwards)
  • Experience with Active Directory, Exchange, IIS and other Microsoft software
  • Desktop upgrades (XP upwards)
  • Knowledge of Network Services (HTTP(s), DNS, DHCP etc)
  • Experience with Network Switches, firewall and router configuration
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Cacti)
  • VoIP Set up and config – Asterix/Freepbx
  • Understanding of MySQL/MSSQL
  • Web scripting knowledge
  • Experience with datacenter operations

Desired skills

  • Technical knowledge of the following: FMLE, Digital Rapids, FFMPEG,
  • Understanding streaming protocols and technologies
  • VMware ESXI setup
  • XEN setup
  • Linux (Centos/RH) LAMP stack admin and scripting
  • CCNA or CCNP Qualified

Personality fit

  • Positive attitude with the ability to get along with anyone
  • Open to learning new skills but be self-motivated to hit the ground running
  • Have excellent spoken and written English
