Job Industry: CRM & ERP
THE JOB - Understand business priorities and help propose the right solutions; understand and deliver new technology-based business models - Application Roadmap & Project Management - Application support/maintenance; IT solution…
CRM & ERP jobs demand a vast range of specialised skills. Being in the top tier of talent requires significant experience and expertise, making the hiring process extremely competitive.
CRM and ERP roles are most often based in the retail, business services, technology, finance and manufacturing sectors, though retail is far-and-away the most popular industry. Retailers benefit immensely from using CRM data to track customer purchase behaviour, allowing stores to log customer loyalty points and recommend products. For major industries which make larger, more complex purchases, CRM and ERP can be used to monitor customer communications, deal with requests and invoices, and much more.
The majority of jobs within these sectors are found in technology departments, so specialists will need a highly technical skillset. There are often crossovers with sales departments, and as such, those in these roles will not only utilise large volumes of customer data, but a great deal of information on a company’s profits and spending.
Everything in ERP and CRM is moving to the cloud, allowing clients easier, remote access to more bespoke systems at a fraction of the cost. This has resulted in a reduction in the number of jobs within the sector, although those with SaaS experience remain highly sought after. In order to get ahead, future candidates should focus on improving their knowledge of cloud-based CRM and ERP platforms, such as Oracle and SAP.
CRM skills will be in high demand this year due to a shortage in CRM, ERP and analytics specialists, leading to higher salaries going to those with enterprise business application skills. With more companies harnessing the power of big data and analytics, the demand for skilled CRM and ERP executives is on the rise.
Employers will want to know that a candidate can not only think, but do. Roles typically require someone who is both technically minded and highly educated, but can also communicate their ideas effectively. Employers will enquire into whether prospective employees have previously worked in a similar capacity to the role, and if so, how well the process went.
Your CV will almost certainly require a detailed history of CRM and ERP implementations and resolutions, so you will need to demonstrate a solid understanding of CRM and ERP techniques and principles. Furthermore, you should have good knowledge of complex database materials and the ability to simplify it for the understanding of the end-users. Finally, try to present evidence of past coding experience, such as HTML, Java or Python, as your level of expertise within these coding disciplines is an ideal indicator of a good CV.
Employers are likely to ask you about the types of CRM and ERP systems you have used in previous roles to gain an understanding of your level of expertise. Answering this type of question not only gives them an insight into your skillset, but also displays your personal skills, how well you can communicate with others and explain complex ideas. Interviewers will almost definitely ask applicants about their knowledge of the company, whether you know about the systems they already have in place and how well you would fit within the team you would work with.
The educational requirements for CRM and ERP jobs can vary from role to role. Senior roles may need PhD level experience in related computer studies. However, many will simply require relevant experience of CRM and ERP systems and qualifications specific to CRMs & ERPs, such as Salesforce ADM 301.
