Solutions Architect – FHIR focus

The FHIR Architect will work closely with a team of solution architects, Product Owners, Lead Developers and Senior Engineers to analyse the functional requirements of a new virtual care product and help design a conceptual and detailed architecture for APIs using FHIR resources.

The architect will also help refactor current APIs to FHIR and use FHIR as the interface for all externally consumed APIs.

What you’ll be doing:

• Work closely with the Product and Design team to help translate the UI design to FHIR specifications ensuring traceability between customer requirements, experience, and product functionality.
• Work with clinical application specialists to ensure that the proposed solution design based on HL7 FHIR is clinically appropriate and meets clinical requirements.
• Research and recommend approaches to supporting functionality using FHIR extensions where the current standard does not meet the requirements.
• Communicate FHIR solutions and present effectively to Design and Delivery teams to gain consensus. Encourage open and transparent communication, effectively negotiate and influence decisions through reasoning in situations of conflict.
• Contribute to design review sessions with UX/UI designers, PO and lead developers to identify and call out workflows or functions that may need to be revised or reconsidered from a technical or FHIR feasibility perspective.
• Keep sight of the overall product design while also focusing on workflows and functions within individual components.
• Collaborate with solution architect and lead architect to document, organise and maintain design artefacts including flow diagrams, domain models, other architecture diagrams, specifications for FHIR APIs, decision registers and impact assessments as needed.
• Facilitate decisions and approvals where needed, to navigate blockers and explore alternative options for design.
• Participate in the assessment of and continual improvement of existing business practices to improve effectiveness and realise efficiencies.

What you’ll bring:

• Good understanding of interoperability standards including HL7v2, FHIR, and clinical systems. Experience with HAPI FHIR and other FHIR implementations
• System Integration Architecture specially APIs and Interoperability of FHIR APIs
• 5 years of experience in design, development, implementation and support of information standards and models in technology solutions
• 2+ years of experience with Integration Architecture specially APIs and Interoperability of FHIR APIs
• 1+ years of experience with Health Care privacy standards with API security architecture and standards (OAuth, OpenID, etc.)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic Agile / SCRUM environment
• Good general domain knowledge in healthcare (desired)
• Experience documenting FHIR profiles
• Flexible and creative enough to envision workflows and use cases outside of those supported by the current FHIR standards and recommended approaches
• Good technical infrastructure performance modeling and benchmarking skills
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic work environment
