At our recent Q3 events around the world we launched our new CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program and are delighted that our Malaysia office has already selected a charity to support and had their first volunteer event.

The team have chosen to support the New Life Community Center (NLCC). The NLCC caters for people of all faiths and races and looks to support the needs of the community in five areas, one of which is education.

The Education arm of NLCC was established in July 2011 with a vision to educate and empower underprivileged children from Kampung Muhibbah (a low income settlement off Jalan Puchong). The objective is to help those most in need and to initiate social change by stressing the importance of education and exposure to the English Language.

The official and national language of Malaysia is Bahasa however English remains an active second language and is used widely in business. Unfortunately speaking English well is the preserve of those with access to the right quality of education – sadly this is economically linked, so those less fortunate don’t get the same opportunity. There are long term ramifications in terms of job opportunities later in life so what better cause for us to support than helping disadvantaged kids learn English!

The focus of the session was ‘Angry Bird’. We talked about emotion management and used a storyboard to brainstorm ways to deal with feeling angry. It was a really productive morning and the team came away feeling excited at what could be achieved on a Saturday morning.

This is only the start for our Malaysian team as they will now be teaching at the centre on a quarterly basis.
