Our client are one of the UK’s fastest growing education technology startups. They are an online learning platform that is making education fairer. Providing to all children whatever their background and wherever they are in the world with an affordable, high-quality education. To achieve their goal, they are combining exceptional teacher-made content with machine learning to keep students on their optimal learning paths.

They are growing rapidly with hundreds of schools in the UK and abroad using the platform and thousands of independent subscribers. They have recently partnered with one of the largest global publishing houses with distribution into thousands of schools in the UK and abroad.

They have a microservice architecture on the backend, deployed on Kubernetes in the cloud. The machine learning algorithms are deployed as Python Flask apps, which you will be responsible for maintaining and building upon. The rest of our backend services are RESTful Typescript Express apps (experience with these is beneficial, but not essential). They use MySQL, MongoDB and Elastic data stores.

• Take ownership of technology deliveries from high level requirement through development, testing and deployment
• Identify risks and issues early, plan mitigating steps and communicate these in a timely manner
• Take part in a a completely greenfield project

What we’re looking for:

• 3+ years experience as a Software Engineer
• A solid understanding of * Python, Flask, MySQL, RESTful API design and interaction & Git
• DBA experience & TensorFlow / PyTorch experience would be beneficial
• An interest in growing your skillset and sharing your knowledge with others
• Collaborating with others on a shared code base and conducting peer code reviews
