Lead Product Designer – Up to £90,000

My client are a London-based fintech startup who have just raised a £3.5m seed round. Their seed round was led by a company who previously invested in Revolut, Spotify, and Facebook. In 2020 they were named Financial Technology Innovation of the Year and Tech Nation Rising Star! Their mission is to help you retire with a larger pension, something I’m sure we would all love!

Most adults in the UK hold their pension in a pension fund. Pension funds give the money in your pension pot to asset managers so that asset managers can invest the money and, hopefully, increase the value of your pension over time. In return for managing the fund, asset managers charge fees. Most pension funds have poor understanding of the fees they are paying, often being overcharged. As a result, by the time you retire as much as 40% of your pension has been paid to asset managers in the form of fees.

My client are a digital platform which allows pension funds to discover, analyse, and compare the fees that asset managers are charging them. Pension funds can then use this data to negotiate better deals, reduce costs, and allow us all to retire with larger pensions. As of June 2021my client has helped more than 800 pension funds & asset owners, with a combined value of over 700 billion pounds, to see their fees. They also work with pension funds in Europe and southern Africa. My client have recently raised their seed round with some of Europe’s leading VCs and have the support of UK government bodies, and some of the biggest players in the pension industry.

The Role:

We are looking for an ambitious and exceptionally talented Lead Product Designer who is cultivating a good understanding of UX and design thinking practices and has an eye for great UI. This is an opportunity to help shape a new design function in a high-growth environment, take new concepts to launch, and help to iterate on a range of existing products and tools.

As their first in-house product designer, you will be taking on significant ownership and responsibility in shaping how my client practices design. You will conduct quantitative and qualitative research, run user tests, create and revise designs, and work closely with the software developers and product managers to ensure that desired business and product outcomes of your designs are being achieved.

We want you to take ownership of the overall solution design and user experience. The work will be varied and fast-paced. You will be operating across the entirety of the user experience: from user onboarding to customer support requests. You will have the freedom to apply the design principles and philosophies you think best.

Who are we looking for?

You have at least a few years of experience designing digital products in a start-up, agency or in-house setting where you:

• Learned how to get prototypes into the hands of customers quickly and often, working with team members to use customer feedback to iterate a product or idea.
• Became acquainted with common UI patterns web and mobile and how and where to use them
• Developed an understanding of what a great design process looks like and can clearly communicate and evangelise the benefits of design thinking to stakeholders.
• Mapped standalone parts of a customer experience using user flows, sketches and prototypes, and learned how to tie them to the wider customer experience.
• Have started to develop an understanding of what makes a great brand and how that translates to every interaction a user has with a product.
• Have run design sprints to translate customer insights to product prototypes.

Nice to haves

• You have worked on a complex data product where you have translated complexity into simple and elegant designs.
• Have designed a product in an industry requiring significant domain expertise (think healthcare, finance, legal etc.).
