Senior UX Designer – Leading Travel Company

Senior UX Designer

@ Leading Travel Company

As a Senior User Experience Designer, you’ll have the opportunity to deliver best-in-class user experience solutions to give our customers the inspiration they need to find and easily book their dream holiday. To do this you’ll be working collaboratively with UX colleagues, UI designers and developers in an Agile development environment, and creating and maintaining effective relationships with key business stakeholders.

You’ll be designing across a wide range of holiday products, including beach holidays, cruises, city breaks, multi-centres and flight-only. Hundreds of thousands of customers trust us to give them the tools they need for their most important purchase of the year, so you can be sure that you’ll have an impact, and the opportunity to learn and develop too!

What you will be doing

As a Senior User Experience Designer you’ll be delivering enhancements to a range of customer-facing sites that reach thousands of customers on a daily basis. You’ll be helping customers choose and book the most important time of the year – their holiday! You’ll add value by making their experiences simple, usable, engaging and exciting.

Your responsibilities will fall into 3 key areas:

  • Using typical UCD process within an agile development team, delivering customer-focused, effective responsive experiences. This includes understanding the customers booking our holidays, assessing the quality of their experiences via qualitative and quantitative methods, evaluating websites and applications to understand trends and best practice within and outside the travel industry, and identifying and promoting issues and opportunities within your team’s remit.
  • You’ll be able to simultaneously maintain this deep focus on your Agile team’s priorities, whilst also taking full accountability for design of projects outside your team that need broader understanding. Prioritising your time, collaborating to ensure you have the resources you need, and managing relationships with your stakeholders, your experience and gravitas will enable you to work independently with little direction and support required from senior members of the UX team.
  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring that agreed design process is followed in both the agile team you’re embedded in, as well as across teams outside your direct remit to ensure the right research is performed, the style guide is central to all designs and any compromises made are acceptable. You’ll be role modelling collaboration and customer focus, playing a key role in shaping ways of working and mentoring less experienced colleagues to ensure good practice design process is followed consistently throughout the team.
  • A consistently strong advocate for the customer in driving new requirements forward, you’ll use insight and evidence to proactively and persuasively drive customer focus, using the tools and techniques at your disposal. You’ll progress your findings through discovery phase into concepts that drive customer and business benefit, using existing agreed patterns where possible for consistency. At each stage you’ll be frequently collaborating with the wider team to validate and optimise your ideas, which will be usability tested and refined. You’ll work closely with the specialist UI design and technical teams to ensure that your designs are viable, clearly understood and translated into high-quality, working solutions.

    What we are looking for

    • Enthusiastic with extensive, demonstrable hands-on experience in full UCD lifecycle in a digital commercial environment, with experience of working in an Agile environment
    • A proven track record as a successful UX practitioner, with strong responsive design experience
    • A strong portfolio demonstrating your achievements across multiple complex projects
    • Demonstrable experience of driving the customer agenda within a collaborative, multi-disciplined environment
    • Self-motivated and results-driven, with great communication and persuasion skills
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the gravitas to influence and persuade stakeholders
    • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of deliverables
    • Highly collaborative, experienced with running workshops, reviews, and walkthroughs
    • Proficient at wire-framing and prototyping (using tools such as Visio, Axure)
    • Collaborative, pragmatic approach
    • Hard-working and dedicated
