Data Engineer/Scientist – GIS & Geology (French speaking)

The client:

My client is a data-driven exploration company with a major focus on mapping and de-risking deep groundwater exploration and extraction as a universal and sustainable catalyst for the inclusive development of the municipal, agroforestry, mining and energy sectors.

The role:

The Data Engineer (DE) will in a first stage observe current people and processes. The DE will develop a cloud infrastructure with simulated data in a first phase. The DE will make an assessment of all cyber risks of the infrastructure alternatives in scope. The DE will design a client interface and ML prototypes to automate existing and new processes. The work will support optimization of all existing processes and be able to seek new ways and tools to support the excellence of the existing teams. The DE will ensure that projects are delivered in time, with optimal quality and cost. Previous roles should include a strong technical grounding in cloud infrastructure, geographical information systems and remote sensing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Develop an implementation strategy with the team and the CEO

● Assess the cyber risks related with the changes in infra proposed

● Create the cloud infrastructure that will support the data ingestion, algorithm and client interface

● Prototype algorithms to automate existing and new processes

● Design beta client interface

● Work hand in hand with our system admin to discuss technical challenges and opportunities

● Write Software documentations

● Write instructions, guidelines and best practices

● Train the geology & GIS team to the new systems put in place

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, maths, or scientific discipline

● 3+ years of professional experience building cloud infrastructure

● French and English spoken fluently

● Experience in full stack development

● Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in France, without sponsorship

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

● Master Python, R, SQL or equivalent;

● Master Node.js, React.js or equivalent;

● Extensive experience with AWS, GCP or equivalent;

● Experience with MapInfo, QGIS, Global Mapper or equivalent;

● Experience with ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, ERDAS ERMapper or equivalent.
