London / wfh

This brand new, global role is being hired to lead, shape and grow customer and product analytics for this niche data vendor. Reporting into the Head of Analytics & Data Science, you will initially have 3 direct reports in one junior, a contractor and a technical individual (who ensures the ongoing usability of the data tools). However, this is likely to grow over the next year or so, as the company continues to invest into analytics, and specifically productizing their expertise in this space as part of their overall offering. Beyond this you will work closely with Data Science, Data Engineering and Dev Ops experts.

This role is largely hands off (70%), and will be focused on the strategic and commercial development of analytics with three core areas of focus:

Product Analytics – they currently have one core product, in their web interface, which is built for three separate customer groups; Fund Managers, Investors and Service Providers. You will oversee delivery of strategic analytics around this product and it’s users, generating insights to inform critical testing around product testing etc. There is even room here to review the current tech stack in order to improve the way they do product analytics.

Customer Analytics – Looking at the internal sales process, how they prioritize leads, transforming the way they predict churn, engagement and overall journey

Analytics as a Service – Analysing trends in the industry and offering these insights as a service to customers

This role is very much business facing, liaising with lots of senior level stakeholders from a variety of work streams, so you’ll need to work with them to understand their challenges and needs and translating these into workable, analytics briefs. This requires analytical thinking, a consultative approach and a desire to own and develop a team and area of specialism.

On a day-to-day basis, you will work in small project teams (the business excellence team, which is part of a wider cross function team) with the goal of getting set projects delivered. You will go from high level to then working in more specialized parts of the projects, to ensure the mechanics are working, everything’s in place, understanding what analytics are required, mentoring and guiding your team, managing expectations and spotting opportunity for further work. There is a lot of probing and testing work that goes on, so you’ll need to tweak specifics with your team as the project rolls on, with freedom to shape things as you see fit. You will also have a lot of daily support from your line manager, with whom you will set and define projects from day one.

The beauty of this role is they are already doing a lot of this already, just without a specialist in place to lead from the front – so they are very open to suggestions, guidance and ideas from this person on tech stack reviews, ways of working and process and stakeholders are already on board – so there’s no fight for engagement and education internally.

The culture is very consensus driven, they tend to work in a very collaborative way with no dictatorship driving decision making – it’s about brining different perspectives together. The founder of the company is also still very much present, which drives a long term vision approach from top down and a performance driven culture which rewards high performers!

Skills and experience require:

· Educated to at least degree level in a relevant, numerate subject; Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics etc.

· Solid understanding of user interactions and pathway analysis; funnels, retention and return rates and optimisation of user journeys.

· Skilled in developing a strategic vision for analytics internally, working to align this with wider business strategies and implementing it

· Deep experience and knowledge of working with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, SQL, Adobe Analytics and ideally Python or R.

· You should understand cookies and alternative tracking methods.

· Experience and knowledge of setting up and running A/B tests and experiments.

· Thrives in a collaborative environment, with strong skills in prioritisation, stakeholder management and a creative mindset for problem solving.

· A highly analytical approach, with experience in translating business questions into analytics briefs.

· Experience in managing others, mentoring or formal line management considered.

· You are comfortable with ambiguity and moving targets
