Head of Marketing – Research Industry – Watford

The Company

Salt is partnered with a global leading research and training charity that helps the food and grocery industry deliver the needs of the public.

The Role

As the Head of Marketing, you will lead a team of 3 and be responsible for creating, scheduling and executing all global marketing activity required to achieve commercial objectives. This will be across all digital channels (SEO, PPC, Email, Social, Website and Webinars) and offline channels (Partnership Networks, Events and Print). This will be best suited to someone with extensive B2B Marketing, Lead Generation and Stakeholder Management experience.


  • Full ownership, production and management of the short and long-term marketing plan, activating the agreed business roadmap to achieve agreed charitable and commercial objectives
  • Overseeing the creation and scheduling of activity across all offline and online marketing channels including websites, email, print, social, webinars etc
  • Driving lead generation activity (top of funnel)
  • Joining up marketing activity to maximise impact with customers through personalisation
  • Maximising customer retention and driving online usage
  • Identifying opportunities for cross-sell / up-sell activity
  • Managing internal stakeholders
  • Working with the CRM team to produce target lists for outbound campaigns
  • Driving our partnership marketing strategy with external networks
  • Ownership of overall marketing spend
  • Driving continuous improvement based on actionable insights
  • Chairing internal meetings with business stakeholders to review progress versus agreed targets and the marketing plan
  • In-depth understanding of our customers and their challenges / priorities
  • In-depth understanding of our products and services
  • Providing input into the annual business planning cycle


  • A proven collaborator, able to manage and influence multiple internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Experienced in digital marketing, preferably within B2B and/or Retail
  • Ability to drive change and embed meticulous planning skills within the marketing team
  • Commercially aware, customer-centric and results-driven
  • A desire for continuous improvement based on data and insight
  • A proactive, can-do mentality
  • Detailed knowledge of current digital marketing trends and best practice
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing automation technology – ideally dotmailer
  • Demonstrable track record of growing online marketing ROI for email, (SEO, PPC, and affiliates.)
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience working with an Microsoft Dynamics CRM to drive marketing segmentation
  • Excellent people manager with proven skills in development (three direct reports)
