It is important that the new CTO is a holistic business leader and a key part of the senior leadership team i.e. they need to build and manage technology that reflects the business and reinforces the company USP, rather than trying to build the technology first and trying to fit the business to it. The right candidate will not be constrained by job descriptions or role specifications, but instead will embrace the vision and build their own place in the business, empowered with real responsibility and accountability. There are significant opportunities to apply industry standard techniques to improve acquisition costs, customer experience and operating metrics.

  • Optimise use of data and customer insight to enhance revenue and profit opportunities.
  • Monitor and optimise security and performance, including consideration of business continuity and disaster recovery issues.
  • Develop, maintain and report value added KPIs and other management information to ensure performance is measured, tracked and managed effectively and in real-time.
  • Own the budget for eCommerce, operational systems, digital and mobile activities.

The Person

  • The existing platform is LAMP stack based, running on AWS IaaS and this will continue to need to be , whilst the new platform follows serverless design principles, so uses AWS FaaS and PaaS functionality, built with Javascript for client, mobile and server.
  • The CTO will need experience of architect and developing software product, building and running in-house software teams.
  • CTO’s that have built SaaS products would be ideal, especially if they have implemented more advanced AWS PaaS/FaaS technology
  • Proven track record of performance and delivery in an entrepreneurial, dynamic organisation.
  • Able to operate in a business with an open challenge, short hierarchy and “can do, will do” culture.
  • Demonstrable experience of creating and successfully executing a technology and digital Strategy, preferably in a credible, operational and customer focused business.
  • Must be able to provide strategic direction and leadership, apply long-term and creative strategic thinking whilst also be willing to be hands on and deliver.
