Associate Director, Health & PR

Greater London Permanent £40000.00 - £50000.00 per annum

Role responsibilities

As an Associate Director, you will be measured on your ability to proactively make a difference, contributing consistently to the continued evolution of our offer and development of the team around you. You will be directly responsible for a number of client accounts, leading account teams and leveraging the broad spread of communications specialists across the agency and the wider network Group to solve your clients’ toughest communications challenges, while working alongside senior colleagues to meet agency commercial targets.

Client management

  • Day-to-day leadership, strategic insight, management and growth of client accounts.
  • Responsible for maintaining good morale, consistently high levels of client service and responsiveness across your accounts to deliver the best results and positive client experiences.
  • Strategy, management and involvement of client acquisition, client retention and existing account growth through a media-neutral approach to our clients’ communications challenges.
  • Responsible for successfully integrating new accounts, cross-selling services and proactively shaping communications programmes for existing clients that take full advantage of MSL’s broad range of service capabilities.
  • A senior escalation point for the account team, wider teams and clients – ultimately responsible for delivering client satisfaction and enhancing MSL’s reputation.

Financial management

  • You will be responsible for devising, implementing and maintaining account planning, objectives, financial targets and overall strategy for each of your client accounts.
  • Maintaining commercial rigor and financial control across accounts, ensuring they deliver the desired profit margin.
  • Responsible for identifying and resolving any client and budget issues in a timely manner.
  • Proactively cross sell services across both MSL and the broader Groupe to drive client growth.
  • Excellent understanding of commercial strategies and how to apply them effectively on projects, proactively seeking to make changes to adapt to commercial challenges and needs.
  • Ability to motivate, mentor, direct and train team members.
  • Manage annual project budgets up to £1m and over (i.e. monthly fee revenue of ca. £100k plus)
  • Identifying your clients’ business needs and translating them to business advantages for your clients and MSL.
  • Prepare annual commercial plans for full year commitment and quarterly reforecasts.

Knowledge and insight

  • A senior source of knowledge for market and industry trends within the Health Practice.
  • Thought leader, providing insight and inspiration to our clients and the wider agency.
  • Proactively plan and develop strategies and contribute strategic insight into the handling of client matters and issues, providing direction to both the client and account teams.
  • Present ideas in compelling ways to the most senior of clients, bringing a natural gravitas and ability to command a room of senior stakeholders.

Team building and management

  • Maintain the highest professional standards and behaviour as appropriate to a Director and senior representative of the agency.
  • Inspire, motivate and lead those you work with to deliver outstanding client service standards, providing the basics seamlessly.
  • Hold regular account review meetings with the account team (and with wider experts where applicable) to ensure client service standards are maintained.
  • Conduct regular meetings and appraisals for direct line reports – setting objectives, identifying both on and off the job development needs and ensure these are followed through.
  • Support on recruitment for the team and maintain a good network for future talent streams.

Previous experience

  • In-depth sector and industry knowledge, well-networked with strong client and media contacts.
  • The very best media / industry connections.
  • Track record of delivering financial growth, profitability and control across the business and area managed.
  • Senior level experience in a similar agency environment.
  • Experience at managing senior client and multi-stakeholder accounts.

  • Inspirational leadership skills and a proven ability to develop and motivate direct reports and wider project teams.
  • Ability to always add value and make a real difference.
  • Organised, meticulous about keeping promises, meeting deadlines, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Commercially astute, actively interested in the sector in which we operate to be able to make smart business decisions and keep abreast of emerging trends.
