Role Title: GCS AWS Engineering Lead | Contract | London

Description

The AWS Engineering Lead will manage a team of DevOps engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) building and operating AWS cloud infrastructure. The Engineering Lead will be responsible for building strong relationships with the Global Businesses / Global Function Application DevOps teams, the wider GCS engineering teams and internal IT teams to deliver cloud infrastructure solutions in an automated efficient manner..

Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities will include:

· Lead a team of DevOps and SRE engineers to build and manage AWS platform services

· Lead the engineering of solutions on Global Cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure As Code methods (e.g. Terraform) getting hands-on where required to do so

· Lead innovation and R&D activities to propose new solutions to improve performance and efficiency

· Work closely with the Global Cloud Services team to ensure governance, project delivery and Architecture requirements are met

· Ensure operational and compliance activities are undertaken and remediation actions planned for AWS platform services

· Provide quality assurance for engineering delivery and ensure best practice is followed throughout development and operations

· Support continuous improvement processes and contribute to engineering best practice working with other Infrastructure lead DevOps engineers

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications:

· Demonstrable team leadership and management experience

· Scrum Master / Agile Coach experience

· Experience of working in an Agile Scrum & DevOps environment including expert knowledge of scrum management tools (e.g. Jira)

· Experience of building a range of AWS services including EC2, VPC, S3, Lambda, Databases (e.g. DynamoDB, RDS)…

· Expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure as a Code concepts and techniques

· Programming experience as a development manager / technical lead coding in a variety of languages including Phython, Ruby, Javascript, Java etc.

· Experience of building successful teams of highly competent engineers

· Customer/stakeholder focus. Ability to build strong relationships with Global Business/Functions Application DevOps teams and global/local IT teams

· Good leadership and teamwork skills – Works collaboratively with Global/local teams to provide the AWS platform services capability/skills

· Risk management effectiveness: monitors, identifies, and develops action plans to remediate risks

· Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same

Desirable Skills

  • AWS Certifications – ideally professional
  • Linux Certification
  • Windows Server Certification
  • ISO 20000/Cobit/TOGAF certification
  • Experience operating in highly regulated industry, e.g. Financial Services
