Security Engineer – Remote / office based – £40,000 – £55,000 – mazon Web Services (AWS) including VPC, ELB, IAM, KMS, EC2, Config, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, Lambda

The role

• The Security Engineer designs and implements various security tools (e.g., Firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other infrastructure tools), and supports other IT technical teams for addressing security gaps, and recommends improvements
• Provides support to the Security Architecture and Engineering Manager to coordinate and implement information security measures at a technical level to safeguard Centrica’s information against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure Accountabilities

Responsibilities

• Performing integrated quality assurance testing for security functionality and resiliency attacks
• Performing information security research and analysis for assigned systems and network infrastructure
• Planning configuration changes for major infrastructure platforms
• Identifying security issues around steady state operation and management of software and incorporating security measures that must be taken when a product reaches its end of life
• Supporting cross-functional meetings with appropriate staff to develop system design recommendations for all required engineering disciplines, such as hardware, software, platform, maintainability and reliability

Technical skills

• Deep IT technical skills (information security solutions in detail, public key infrastructure (PKI), file encryption, programming, support, workstations, network, cloud solutions, etc.)
• Strong programming skills
• Experience in and knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, MVS, VMWare), hardware and software platforms, and protocols as they relate to information technology
• Familiarity with in cloud based DDoS protection services such as AWS Advanced Shield and Akamai ▪ Experience working in a development team or application security team
• Solid understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) including VPC, ELB, IAM, KMS, EC2, Config, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, Lambda, and others
• Solid Understanding of Azure including Sentinel, Information Protection, Security Centre
• Knowledge of security technologies including: Firewall, IDS/IPS/HIDS, Anti-Virus, SIEM, Vulnerability Scanning, Threat Intelligence sources & service
• Understanding of power utilities, retail energy, and oil and gas industry trends and emerging threats
• Effective communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to clearly articulate issues, enable discussion that leads toward resolution and communicate results to management
• Demonstrated ability to work in teams, with the ability to effectively prioritize work/delivery commitments to achieve timely and effective outcomes Education
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in area(s) of study such as information technology, computer science, information systems, or related field, or high school diploma with relevant work experience Work

• Experience in programming code, scripting and concepts
