Kubernetes Platform Engineer – AWS

Greater London Permanent £80000.00 - £100000.00 per annum + Bonus

The Senior Platform Engineer will work with our client’s product, design and operations teams to help build out the next generation of banking platforms. Responsible for creating the low level platform and core banking services, the engineer will help power the web and mobile interfaces and clients through our REST APIs.

The engineer will work with architecture and infrastructure that has been designed to allow the rollout of small bits of code into production, fast and often, on the basis that a system is developed and grown rather than simply built. Building high performance, highly scalable, always available, fault tolerant systems is a team game and the lead will be required to provide direction, oversight and aid the team to best work collaboratively.

The senior engineer should be confident leading the development of significant features and solving complex problems, as well as being a people leader providing technical coaching and oversight to other engineers in the team. Finally, the engineer will be responsible for setting a positive and safe culture in the team as well as ensuring our the venture engineering principles are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Work with multiple stakeholders, in both engineering and business capabilities, to understand implementation and process decisions and help improve them.

  • Create and maintain the low level platform and core banking services to help power our web, and mobile user interfaces and clients through our REST APIs.

  • Provide direct support and oversight to the more junior engineers of the team and also act as a subject matter expert when required to other engineers across the venture

  • Working with stakeholders from all business areas (Product, Risk, Technology and Design) as well as the venture management team, to help drive the direction of development for the venture, putting the long term interests of our customers at the heart of key decisions

  • Ensuring all code meets our coding standards, including taking part in PR’s

  • Lead incidents from identification to resolution

  • Working collaboratively with the team to resolve technical issues

  • Manage day-to-day activities within risk appetite

  • Display risk practices and behaviours consistent with a risk culture where risk is simply part of the way we work and think

Skills:

  • Kubernetes (production usage)

  • Terraform

  • Golang = nice to have (or one strong programming lang e.g. Python)

  • AWS

  • Linux admin skills

  • Kafka = nice to have

  • Microservice awareness

  • CI/CD focus and experience

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills

  • Team player who is used to working well in a collaborative team

Experience:

At at a minimum we expect that you have experience of working in cloud based, continuous deployment type. Key to success is having the right behaviours by default but also good experience of using schedulers like Kubernetes, Mesos/Marathon and containers like Docker
