Solution Architect (TechOps)

Contract | Northampton | 3 months | DevOps | AWS | TechOps

In this role you will be working closely with the relevant Lead Solutions Designers and Chief Architecture Owners to support the creation of an appropriate IT strategy. You will be passionate about and confident working in agile environments, continual delivery techniques and testing with strong software development and application architecture experience.

Key skills and responsibilities:

Solutions Development

* Experience of and conversant with migration from legacy estate delivery to cloud based solutions (e.g. AWS), DevOps practices and agile delivery methods.

* Can create technology solutions, architectural visions, proofs of feasibility and solutions impacts assessments to meet business requirements in line with Group IT Strategies and Architectures.

* Can work with external partners and suppliers to deliver required business services and products.

* Can pro-actively research relevant technologies and demonstrate their benefits by developing POCs where necessary.

* Add clarity to business requirements; can challenge business requirements to ensure high quality candidate solutions are created.

* Able to identify common needs and opportunities for joint/aligned solutions across the business.

* Outside the box thinker to support the business in delivering its strategic objectives rather than just responding to a pre-defined request.

* Can provide thought leadership and drive technology innovation.

* Capable of giving advice on supplier and cost options, ensuring that the validity of the overall solution is fully represented and considered in any RFI/RFPs process, or in the creation and evaluation of proof of concept solutions.

Advice and Guidance

* Confident in giving advice and guidance to business and technology stakeholders in shaping the portfolio of technology solutions to support business needs.

* Able to give guidance and support the delivery teams.

* Can contribute to broader architectural governance activities by participating in peer reviews for other solutions.

* Will maintain detailed awareness of, takes fully into account, and promotes throughout the organisation, any relevant statutory, internal or external regulations, standards and codes of good practice. Can contribute to the definition of such regulations, standards and codes.

* Can coach and mentor other members of the architecture teams and the broader technology community.

Personal Specification

* Very strong, hands-on technical skills with broad knowledge of web technologies, methodologies and standards.

* Great communicator with the ability to explain technical decisions to the broader team and company at executive.

* Motivates, leads and encourages others regardless of position within chain of command and outside of direct reporting lines.

* Demonstrate initiative and competence; support and encourage positive working behaviours in others.

* A life-long learner who freely shares information and experience and seeks knowledge from others.

* Familiar with integration and implementation issues and their architectural implications.

* Good knowledge of open source technologies and deep knowledge of web

technologies, methodologies and standards.

* Strong software development and application architecture experience.

* Good knowledge of open source technologies.

* Understanding of key considerations in Secure systems & software design, Resilience and High-Availability patterns for mission-critical applications, including multi-data-centre deployments.

* Comfortable giving and receiving feedback at all levels.
