My client is looking for an exceptional Product Owner on a Contract / Freelance basis for 1 year initially. My client is looking for really exceptional people to join the project. This is all part of the wider Transformation they are currently embarking on.

You will need to be based in Brussels for the duration of the project

The Product Owner (PO) function is at the core of our platform and Technologies management. Product Owner is end-to-end responsible to define the vision of the product, identify the stakeholders, ensure holistic management of aspects related to IT, architecture, security, finance and human resources. The PO is in charge of managing the product backlog so that it reflects the business priorities (highest value first). At present, the PO is also responsible for people management of the team members but not for the team delivery (Scrum Master responsibility).

The PO takes ownership for the product roadmap maintaining and communicating a 3 year strategy.

The PO is supported by the Scrum Master to support the team by day-to-day priority and task management, determining the proper sequence of delivery, assessing and improving the team velocity and raising impediments.

As Windows Product Owner you are specifically responsible for defining and promoting the technology strategy for the entire Microsoft Windows IT domain and helping to implement it. On top of your domain strategy responsibility you will also be accountable for a subset of IT products and technologies.

As part of the job, you will be in the driver seat to address these challenges and make change happening on our IT platform. In doing this, you will report directly to the Open Systems Tribe Lead.

Product Owner activities include:

  • Stakeholder Management responsible for communicating with all stakeholders, including customers, business leaders, and other teams, to make sure the Backlog and Vision are clear and aligned with business aims, customer expectations and dealing with the unknown;
  • Owns the Product Backlog to create, refine and consistently update and prioritize the Backlog, to meet rapidly changing demands and markets, based on customer value, risk mitigation, innovation, overall strategy and business objectives;
  • Defining the Vision responsible for creating and sharing a Product Vision so that Development Teams can clearly visualize the expected outcome to deliver customer value;
  • Primary Liaison the primary communicator and link between stakeholders and teams. As such, they have to be expert communicators, leading collaboration with stakeholders on all major decisions and strategy, and providing clear guidance, boundaries and information for the Development Teams;
  • Anticipating Needs an expert at understanding and anticipating the customer needs, based on possible future pain points, innovation in the market and competitor’s activities;
  • Evaluating Product Increments accountable for each stage to achieve the final product, by inspecting and evaluating completed incremental Product progress;
  • Develop and Maintain the Product Roadmap divide the vision into epics, features and define the User Story of each epic so it can be integrated in the Product Backlog.
  • Compliance ensures that Product meets regulatory requirement, policies and needs of internal customers / stakeholders
  • Servant Leadership by fostering trust among employees by holding accountable, helping others to develop, showing appreciation, sharing power and listening without judging.

Desired Skills and Experience

Mandatory experience & competences:

  • 10+ years of technical experience preferably in managing large IT environments. Strong knowledge of security concepts.
  • Experience in leading technology or architecture positions
  • Ability to articulate a mid/long term vision for the evolution of the Windows platform inclusive an evolution to private and public cloud services.
  • Understanding of the technology trends driving corporate IT markets.
  • Experience in developing relationships with external technology vendors and/or external service providers
  • Good knowledge of key technologies such as MS Windows Server, MS Active Directory & DNS, Active Directory federation, Azure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), Windows containers, Vmware ESX, McAfee
  • Experience in cross-team technical coordination and team collaboration
  • Proficient oral and written communications skills in English, sharing strategy and vision with both peers and management.
  • Drive and energy, entrepreneurial attitude, hands-on mentality.

Additional Experience & Competences:

  • General understanding of storage, networking and office technologies
  • Understanding of production processes and global technical environment (Linux, Mainframe …) is an asset
  • Experience in automation (DSC, Ansible & SCCM), knowledge of VBblock and Nutanix solution are an asset
  • Experience in budget management
  • Product Owner certification (Professional Scrum Product Owner I (PSPO I)) and Scrum Product Owner (Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO I) )certification or proven experience is an asset
