A leading bank is seeking a highly experienced Head of Database to join our team. As the Head of Database, you will provide technical and managerial development and oversight for all databases used in the UK side of the business, including contract and relationship management with database vendors. You will be the team manager for all DBAs, and the point of contact for all database escalations. You will be responsible for designing, installing, configuring, upgrading and maintaining databases for all of the bank’s UK customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, install, configure, upgrade and maintain databases for all of the bank’s UK customers
• Ensure service availability and manage obsolescence within the database environments
• Lead in the design, testing, delivery, reporting, escalation and management for updates or changes to the database environments
• Manage 3rd party services included within the database estate, inclusive of contract and relationship management
• Be a technical lead for projects and perform BAU activities, 24×7 On-call support and out of hours changes
• Optimize the delivery of databases by working closely with infrastructure and wider technology teams to improve quality, performance and scalability
• Manage and improve team performance, including hiring, training and development, guiding and supporting the database team to achieve performance goals and objectives

Qualifications:

• Significant and demonstrable experience managing large and complex multi-vendor database derivatives in a dynamic, high-pressure environment
• Previous experience in leading architectural design, planning and implementation of database solutions
• A natural leader in high-pressure moments
• Proven track record of defining and evolving database process and standards in keeping with industry changes with respect to cyber threats
• Experience within the banking industry is preferred
