Project Manager

Project Manager | £465/Day | 12 Months | Inside IR35 | Defence Sector | Onsite 2 Days in Exeter

One of my key Public Sector clients is currently looking to hire a Project Manager on a contract basis. Experience working in the Defence sector in a Cloud based environment is highly desirable.

The programme manages the evolution and lifecycle of a range of products and services that support Defence users, both in the UK and Internationally. Delivery requires a varied programme of Science & Technology projects and activities. The role will work alongside a team of experienced project and delivery managers as well of a broad range of other specialists (e.g. Product Managers, Architects, Analysts, etc.) as part of a large multi-disciplined team. Delivery is predominately agile (Scrum or Kanban), but with some aspects of classic waterfall (tailored PRINCE2), as necessary within a Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) framework

The programme is currently delivered through three overarching tranches of work: Applications, Visualisation, and Data delivery. It is likely that this role will manage delivery of projects of varying complexities within the Data tranche using, where a key driver for the programme is to mange the move to Cloud technologies for delivery of data to Defence end users.

We’re looking for people with the experience to deliver projects on time and on budget without compromising on quality. Excellent communication and leadership skills are a must, along with practical knowledge of agile ‘at scale’. Qualifications in agile and an understanding of working in a large-scale programme environment would be advantageous, as would any previous experience of working in the Defence Sector.

Project Manager Responsibilities:

• Delivery – Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints

• Project Management – Day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team. Provide effective leadership and management controls. Set project controls. Design the project structure and organisation appropriate to stage. Set appropriate delivery methodologies. Manage effective transition between project phases.
• Resources – Identify skill requirements; and deploy and develop resources.
• Stakeholder Management – Identify and manage stakeholder relationships and need for senior level support. Manage internal and external relationships as appropriate.
• Risks & Issues – Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate. Identify and work with related projects to manage interdependencies.
• Governance – Support effective governance and decision making. Provide reporting and engage in mechanisms that hold you, as Project Manager, to account for delivery.
• Assurance – Engage with assurance reviews and support action on recommendations. Organise assurance processes such as gateway reviews, as required.
• Change Management – Ensure effective Change Management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.
• Guidance & Support – Provide support, guidance and coaching for the project team. Show commitment to personal development. Promote effective individual and team performance.
• Project Performance & Controls – Cascade vision and translate into delivery objectives for the team. Develop and maintain Project Plan. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Manage performance and report progress to sponsors.
