Senior Project Manager – Finance – Hybrid/Nottingham

Contract/Freelance

Day rate: £400 – £600 (INSIDE IR35)

Duration: 6 months

Start: ASAP

My client is undertaking an enterprise-wide transformation to gain competitive advantage through technology (Cloud, devops, micro-services) and large-scale adoption of Agile principles and methodologies best practices across the company. The Project Manager would join an existing programme of work in the Consumer Information Services Business Unit to provide additional support to the Programme Director on delivery and governance activities for an in-flight cloud migration project. The nuance to this project is that it has a high level plan with a set of quarterly (program increment) milestones, which the engineering teams plan with as part of their agile delivery approach. This role will need to bridge the gap between the agile delivery methods and the PMO governance requirements, so an awareness of agile is essential.

Requirements

  • Bridging the agile engineering and infrastructure teams to monitor progress to overall project goals
  • Monitors and reports project progress to objectives in timeframes, scope, quality, costs and risks.
  • Deliver and support KPIs, reporting and governance frameworks to ensure that the project is well-managed and early insight is available.
  • Working in partnership with the Release Train Engineer and others on the programme leadership team to collate, interpret and distribute information on project status, changes and issues. Identifies potential sources for solutions, and contacts appropriate parties to initiate action.
  • Producing Steering packs to ensure stakeholders remain well informed
  • Manages project finances to established budget, including Earned Value Management – making recommendations as appropriate
  • Ensure that the project and the project’s deliverables operate to UK’s governance, risk, compliance and control frameworks
  • Identifies, mitigates and recommends alternatives on handling risks and issues that threaten the successful completion of the project within deadline.
  • Supporting the teams in managing external dependencies
  • Works in partnership with the UKI Programme Office, particularly on governance, learnings and risk management.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in delivering projects in a large enterprise
  • Knowledge of agile ways of working, and ideally have experience of incorporating this into project governance. Scaled agile knowledge would be beneficial
  • Strong stakeholder management skills; including making key information visible and understandable to exec stakeholders
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to connect with people – an expert influencer, especially within a matrixed environment.
  • Track record of working in a fast paced, results driven roles within complex organisations – Financial Services / Cloud Business Services preferred, but not required
  • Strong collaborator who can work across multiple dedicated and virtual teams to solve problems and achieve intended outcomes
  • A mindset that thrives in ambiguity, can navigate the concrete and the abstract, and always constructively challenges the status quo
  • A personal style that embraces teamwork, cares deeply about the work and the team, and shares openly and honestly with all
