Applications Engineering Lead

Applications Engineering Lead/Head of Applications – 6 Month Contract – Remote – £600 – £700/day – Inside IR35

I am currently looking for an Applications Engineering Lead for a key public sector client. The Applications Engineering Lead is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing teams of software engineers, and providing leadership, vision and direction for the software engineering organisation. This position is accountable for recruiting, developing and retaining talent, as well as ensuring the software engineering staff has the skills and capabilities to meet business needs. The Applications Engineering Lead also oversees the implementation of software engineering initiatives, and is responsible for championing best practices and ensuring initiatives achieve business outcomes.

The role may include some international travel to key locations for the Applications Engineering team (Poland and India).

Demonstrable senior experience, in large complex international organisation of:

• Leading geographically distributed teams.
• Planning and managing significant IS budgets.
• Building and managing Governance frameworks for application engineering
• Leading third party suppliers for application development.
• Understanding of software development methodologies and best practices.
• Understanding of relevant tools and platforms (e.g. cloud platforms, web technologies, client-server technologies, continuous integration and deployment), with an eagerness to learn about new and unfamiliar technologies.
• Adaptability and ability to manage rapid change in business needs, processes, or technologies

• Availability management AVMT – Level 5
• Systems design DESN – Level 5
• Financial management for IT FIMT – Level 5

Skills required for Applications Engineering Lead role:

• Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships at all levels of the organisation.
• Strong business acumen and ability to understand and drive business objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in a condensed manner to various stakeholders verbally and in writing.
• Strong talent management skills including talent development, coaching, mentoring, and team motivation.
• Strong organisational skills, including an ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
