Linux & PostgreSQL Development Engineer – London – Zurich – Paris – Postgre SQL, Linux, C++, REDHAT, Open Source, TDD – £80,000 – £110,000

We are looking for a dedicated professional Linux and PostgreSQL development engineer. Working in a very stimulating environment with expert colleagues, you will join a team of technicians, developers and system testers who work across multiple time zones and multiple locations.

You will contribute to the development of PostgreSQL support for our products, the database components of our Software, and provide the new features required by our customers. You are expected to be an adept of Test-Driven Development / Shift Left Testing to deliver features at right level of quality.

You must be very familiar with the requirements of high-end database systems and similar concepts related to the arena of parallel processing for large interactive user populations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable
  • Consult with other product development teams to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of the overall system
  • Accurately provide project (EPIC’s / Story / Task) testing estimates
  • Write automated unit test cases and script them on the chosen test platform
  • Employ Continuous Improvement methods to ensure robust and thorough feature development
  • Maintain effective communication with other software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes

Essential skills

  • Extensive experience around low-level Linux (particularly RedHat distribution) and PostgreSQL system programming, especially features related to real-time, large scale, parallel architectures with concerns for high data integrity
  • Adept of Open Source software and familiar with the practices of this community
  • Awareness of best practices for database management and tooling for PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of SQL dialectal variations across RDBMS types
  • Expert in C/C++ programming
  • Good knowledge (and practice) of OSS relational databases (in particular PostgreSQL)
  • Knowledge of bash shell / command line in Linux
  • Debugging and analysis of system logs

Additional skills

  • Deep knowledge of APIs and REST
  • x86 system admin experience
  • Use of Confluence, Git, JIRA & Docker
  • UI / UX testing experience (browser based)
  • Experience working in an IBM mainframe environment : DB2, CICS, IMS, Websphere/IBM MQ
