Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated professional QA Java Test Engineer to support the middleware team and ongoing in-house support of web-based test tools.

Working in a continuous delivery/testing environment you will join a team of technicians, developers and system testers in multiple time zones and multiple locations. You will deliver automation test scripts to ensure that the system at integration level is in a consistent state of build and is safe to be deployed. As a QA test engineer, you will be equally as adept technically as you are with testing.

There may be some international travel so you must currently be eligible to work in the UK and fly internationally.

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable
  • Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of the overall system
  • Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects. Determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably according to documented requirements as well as established standards under both normal and abnormal conditions
  • Accurately provide project (EPIC’s / Story / Task) testing estimates
  • Write automated test cases and script them on the chosen test platform
  • Employ Continuous Improvement methods to ensure robust and thorough testing
  • Maintain effective communication with the project software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes
  • Execute test plans and create test reports to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction
  • Participate in development and test meetings

Essential Skills:

  • Proven hands-on Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) experience
  • Experience in JEE application development and good Object-oriented analysis capabilities
  • Extensive experience around testing and automation on Linux systems, particularly RHEL7
  • JEE knowledge (JBoss / WebSphere) – in particular using XA resources (JTA)
  • JEE development/application testing
  • Java test development experience Debugging and analysis of system logs.
  • Experience of Jira, Git and Jenkins

Nice to have:

  • Java knowledge: e.g. non trivial memory management, class-loading, reflection APIs, XA transaction management, charset handling, CPU usage and memory optimization
  • Development experience in C, C++, C#, VB , PERL, PYTHON, Java
  • Good knowledge of bash shell / command line in Linux
  • Experience in using Selenium or other web automation APIs
  • Experience in Windows automation APIs
  • Knowledge of mainframe technologies (CICS, 3270 streams, JCL)
  • Knowledge of APIs, REST, SQL and JDBC (DB/2, Postgres
