This is a great opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading Automotive businesses as an Engineering Manager of their .NET team. You will focus on taking them to the next level of software engineering in .NET and related technologies. The role will focus on the growth of their talented internal engineers, supervising the quality of their offshore .NET resources, training and promoting best in class engineering practices in their development teams and, working with their team of Solution Architects, have technical oversight over the software architecture of their .NET platforms.

What you will be doing:

• Implement the model with all .NET-based platforms and conduct quarterly reviews of progress
• Promote excellence in engineering practices both in-house and within development partners through organised training and advocacy via their internal communication forums and Communities of Practice
• Establish a Community of Practice on engineering practices, encourage engagement and drive the practice towards a self-led model
• Provide coaching and mentoring for staff, leading to well-coached, self-measuring development teams
• Shaping new and existing teams, with the right expertise and career progression
• Provide excellent-quality line management to their people and teams, leading to appreciate engineers with clear career and personal development plans
• Set out the .NET tooling landscape, ensuring their people are aligned around best-in-class use of tooling across product teams
• Engage with Product Leadership to ensure that they understand and support the importance of matured engineering practices
• Based on the direction set by Architecture, own the software architecture roadmap of each of their core .NET platforms
• Contribute fully to the software engineering management team on topics that may not sit within your area of expertise and own the topics that do
• Align with other specialists in coaching and supporting product teams to engineering excellence

Technical skills/business skills required:

• Technical background in .NET / Azure and related/complementary technologies
• Outward looking, retaining a high degree of expertise in emerging .NET/Azure technologies and related technologies, embracing a culture of internal and external collaboration to solve complex problems and embedding that in teams and individuals
• Ability to get “hands on” in order to develop POCs and patterns for teams to follow
• Experienced in software architecture and application design
• Expertise in Azure based containerised or serverless technologies
• Experienced people manager, mentor and trainer/coach; demonstrable experience in managing and developing individuals as individuals and unlocking talent
• An exceptional balance of technical and soft skills
• Comfortable working in a distributed team environment that undergoes continuous change
• Flexible in approach to role and responsibilities
• Confident enough to challenge but, equally, seeks feedback, listens carefully and always ensures the right outcome
• Enthusiastic and driven with a desire to succeed
• Excellent team player
• High level of personal ownership and accountability with an ability to provide clarity on activities and outcomes linked to business and people goals and the context in which they sit
• Cultural awareness and emotional intelligence, backed by demonstrable experience working closely with diverse cultures
