Senior Lead Systems Architect

LEAD SYSTEM ARCHITECT

Role Summary

Lead and develop end to end [radio unit through to baseband (DU/CU)] feature requirements & specifications necessary to support new 5G ORAN based radio units and advanced features. Work closely with DU architects and system engineers to develop next generation radio system architecture and identify advanced technologies for 5G mmWave, 4TRX/8TRX remote radio heads and mMIMO products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the radio side of the ORAN fronthaul specifications (control plane, user plane, maintenance plane, etc.) for new radios under development.
  • In conjunction with radio access network (RAN) team, define feature requirements for radio unit (RU) and DU.
  • Complete feasibility studies for new radio centric features.
  • Identify and define architecture options for current and future generation radio solutions balancing cost, SW development, effort and time to market.
  • Engage with suppliers to evaluate next generation devices. Complete overall technology, cost and time to market analysis for competing devices/suppliers
  • Collaborate with key work partners both within the RU and RAN to review/finalise requirements, review and challenge architecture options and recommendations, obtain feedback on supplier quality, technical track record, etc.

Job Requirements

  • Proven track record in developing 5G and/or 4G RAN feature engineering requirements
  • Expertise in L1, L2 and L3
  • In-depth knowledge on mobile networks, especially on 3GPP LTE 4G and 5G standards in RAN and the ORAN interface.
  • Knowledgeable about radio resource management (i.e., radio intelligent controller)
  • Possess sound understanding of essential elements of Systems engineering including how to convey requirements to development and validation teams
  • Knowledgeable on beamforming, beamforming calibration and antenna design and technologies
  • Knowledgeable on radio development and radio system architecture (i.e., transmit and receiver line up, DFE, TX PAs, filters, LNAs, antennas, etc.) a plus.
  • Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills
  • Curiosity to continuously learn and innovate
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills for a variety of audiences including executives, partners, and customers.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new technologies and concepts.
  • Qualification:
  • MS Degree in EE or CS.
  • At least 10+ year’s experience in telecommunication industry in design and systems engineering roles
