To contract or not to contract

Over the last half a decade, work structures have drastically changed and expanded beyond the traditional nine-to-five, five-day-a-week job. Though full-time, permanent work still exists, the parameters and expectations of permanent positions have taken a drastic turn towards greater flexibility in hours and location. Similarly, the turn of the century has seen a rise in the prevalence of contract work. Contract workers, or freelancers, are independent professionals who work on fixed-term contracts with an employer to complete a particular project. But what is a contractor?
