We are on the hunt for an experienced communications individual who will contribute to providing communications advice and support to teams across NZ. The successful candidate will emulate the clients values of manaakitanga (people at the heart), mahi tahi (better together) and whanake (be bold).

The purpose of the role is to provide strategic communication advice and support at a local and national level. You will be able to successfully influence decisions and outcomes pertinent to our client’s reputation. The Senior Communications Advisor works closely with the Communications Manager, Regional Directors, and their teams, as well as the Internal and External Communications teams among other staff.

The role:

· Deliver communications advice that minimises risk, enhances the client’s reputation and promotes their role and programmes of work

· Develop and implement communication plans to identify and mitigate risks and manage issues where necessary

· Work on national programmes of work, with a focus on both delivering and implementing communications strategies that align with the clients organisational strategies

· Provide reactive regional media support and work with the Corporate Media Team on national issues

· Provide a communications account management service and strategic advice for business groups and/or cross-agency projects where required

· Mentor, coach, and support more junior members of the team to deliver on the leadership attributes of the role.

What you will bring:

· A tertiary qualification in Communications or Journalism with at least 5 years experience in a communications role – ideally within in a complex organisation in the government or public sectors.

· In-depth understanding of the approach to developing a communications strategy and experience in implementing specific strategies.

· In-depth experience working both proactively and reactively with the media.

· Demonstrated ability in finding and recognising a good story.

Experience utilising various channels, including social media and the web to communicate stories.
