Head of Product Design

Job Description:

Our client is looking for a Head of Product Design to join their team and help

build energy technology for the South African market. If you want to help shape the

As the design team leader, you will take full ownership of the work you produce, from

talking to customers to delivering the design to the key stakeholders in the tech team.

What you will get to do

● Play a founding role in shaping the design team culture and processes.

● Be a customer advocate by identifying our target user groups and conducting

interviews or other inquiries to help understand user needs.

● Follow a user-centred design approach to execute new business requirements

and improve the overall experience.

● Incorporate market and competitor analysis, customer feedback, site metrics,

and usability findings into designs.

● Solve complex usability and design problems, humanise product ideas and

develop high-quality solutions through wireframes, elegant designs, storyboards,

mock-ups, and site maps.

● Work with Product Managers and Engineers to grow large strategic concepts

through design exploration, ideation and user validation.

● Oversee the user experience of products and features from conception through

launch and additional ongoing iterations.

● Develop and implement design systems that help scale the system as we grow.

● Provide regular reporting on the status of the user experience (analytics,

conversions, customer experience metrics etc.)

Requirements – What you bring to the role

● 5+ years of experience designing digital products that have been released to the

market.

● Proven experience delivering end-to-end (from brief to shipping) digital products

within a cross-functional team environment with an iterative approach that

leverages quantitative and qualitative measurement.

● Ability to define problems & goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and

oversee the design process.

● You’re an excellent communicator and can clearly articulate your design

decisions across functional teams, including product, engineering and marketing.

● Demonstrated ability to think at a high level about product strategy and act

quickly and precisely to identify and deliver the tactical pieces that realise it.

● Thorough knowledge and experience across various design approaches and

methodologies, including low and high-fidelity prototyping skills.

● Expert knowledge of Figma, Adobe or similar design tool.

● Very strong attention to detail.

● Ability to build and lead a team of UX/UI designers.

● Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction.

● Effectively lead product discovery and design workshops.
